First Trailer For ‘Mission Impossible 8’ Packs A Punch With ‘The Final Reckoning’

Tom Cruise has still got it. Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning marks the eighth installment in the action film series, which kicked off in 1996. Cruise, who has starred in all eight movies as Ethan Hunt, unveiled the name of the upcoming film and its poster on social media on Monday (Nov. 11), the same day that Paramount Pictures released the film’s thrilling teaser trailer, per Variety.

“I need you to trust me one last time,” Cruise’s Hunt utters at the end of the trailer.

While the first look primarily features Cruise taking on his wild stunts, fans can also spot Angela Bassett, who is reprising her role as CIA Director Erika Sloane, which she debuted in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. According to Deadline, other franchise alums back for the film include Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Esai Morales, Vanessa Kirby, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Pom Klementieff and director Christopher McQuarrie.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Renner, who starred in Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol (2011) and Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation (2015) made headlines this summer for revealing that he turned down the chance to appear in Fallout because they were planning on killing off his character, William Brandt. However, he told Collider in May that “maybe now that [his] daughter is older that could happen.”

“I’d always jump into a Mission: Impossible anytime and back into Brandt,” he shared at the time. “It’s great.”

Those joining the film series for the first time are Hannah Waddingham, Nick Offerman, Holt McCallany, Katy O’Brian and Stephen Oyoung, per Deadline.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Final Reckoning, which Paramount reportedly expressed interest in promoting as the “final” installment in the series, has a budget nearing $400 million. However, as noted by the outlet, Cruise previously told the Sydney Morning Herald that he “hope[s] to keep making Mission: Impossible films until [he’s Harrison Ford‘s] age,” referring to the actor, who was 80 at the time.

Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning is scheduled to hit theaters on May 23, 2025. Take a look at the teaser trailer above.
