New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: The Umbrella Academy, The Instigators, Mr. Throwback + more
This week on Netflix marks the arrival of the final season of the beloved series The Umbrella Academy; the six episodes of season 4 dropped on Thursday. On Apple TV+, you can catch the streaming release of The Instigators, the new action-heist movie starring Casey Affleck and Matt Damon. And on Peacock, catch Steph Curry, Adam Pally and Ego Nwodim in the new sitcom Mr. Throwback.
New on Netflix August 8: The Umbrella Academy (Season 4)
Season 4 of the superhero series The Umbrella Academy – which is also its last – sees the Hargreeves kids in a fresh and final timeline where they don’t have their powers but must still find a way to take down the new enemies who want to completely erase their existence. This season, in addition to OG cast like Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, and Emmy Raver-Lampman, new faces will include Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman who will star as married professors Doctors Gene and Jean Thibedeau.
New on Apple TV+ August 9: The Instigators
In The Instigators, Matt Damon and Casey Affleck play Rory and Cobby, two Boston ne’er-do-wells who team up to pull off a heist and rob a corrupt politician. As you can guess, the heist doesn’t go as planned, and the duo find themself on the run, with Rory’s therapist (Hong Chau) in tow. Affleck co-wrote the script and the film was directed by Doug Liman, who last teamed up with Damon for The Bourne Identity.
New on Peacock August 8: Mr. Throwback
Is there anything Steph Curry can’t do? Not content to simply dominate sports, the NBA star and Olympian is attempting comedy with the new series on Peacock that he’s producing and starring in, Mr. Throwback. The mockumentary-style sitcom co-stars Adam Pally as a memorabilia dealer who asks his childhood friend, Steph Curry, playing “himself,” for some help as he gets back on his feet. The entire first season is available now on Peacock.
