Veteran voice actress Pamela Hayden announced she is retiring from The Simpsons after 35 years of voicing Bart Simpson’s best friend, Milhouse Van Houten.

Hayden, who has starred in almost 700 episodes of the hit Fox series since it first premiered in 1989, announced the news Wednesday.

“The time has come for me to hang up my microphone, but how do I say goodbye to The Simpsons?……not easily,” she said in a statement, per the New York Post. “It’s been an honor and a joy to have worked on such a funny, witty, and groundbreaking show, and to give voice to Milhouse.”

“Here’s to everyone who made this terrific ride I’ve been on possible. Thanks for 35 years!!  Be well and happy. My best to you all. P.S. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for that blue-haired 10-year-old boy with glasses,” Hayden added.

Hayden’s last episode of The Simpsons, titled “Treehouse of Horror Presents: Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes,” airs Sunday (Nov. 24), on Fox. It will be available to stream the next day on Hulu.

The official description for the episode notes: “A tattooed man at a mysterious night circus transports Lisa into three strange stories from the innocent 1950s, the chilling retro-present, and a brutalist future where prestige TV rules the world.”

In addition to voicing Milhouse, Hayden also played Rod Flanders, Janey Powell, Jimbo Jones, and several other characters on the show, with credited roles in a whopping 694 total episodes.

Fox confirmed that re-casting for her roles will begin soon, per the Post.

Simpsons creator Matt Groening praised the veteran voice actress. “Pamela gave us tons of laughs with Milhouse, the hapless kid with the biggest nose in Springfield. She made Milhouse hilarious and real, and we will miss her,” he said.

The show honored her 35 years of work with a special tribute video highlighting Milhouse’s finest moments on The Simpsons.

“People are always saying what a nerd he is but one thing that I love about Milhouse is he’s always getting knocked down but he’s always getting back up,” she says in the video. “I love the little guy. It’s a wonderful analogy for life.”

The Simpsons airs Sundays at 8/7c on Fox.
