Who’s The Boss star Danny Pintauro is opening up about undergoing emergency surgery.

The actor took to Instagram on Sunday (Dec. 1) to share an update, revealing that he “got into a scooter accident” on the night of Thanksgiving (Nov. 28), per People.

“The bike lane I was riding in was suddenly blocked with cones and I was forced to choose between a van and a pylon,” he recalled. “The pylons hurt!! Have a terrible scrape on my arm and I was pretty convinced I had broken my arm.”

While he felt “it was a whole lot better” on Friday morning (Nov. 29), he wrote that he “started having these weird chest pains” during the “late afternoon” on Saturday (Nov. 30),” explaining, “It felt like my hiatal hernia was acting up.”

“Before long, the pain was so significant all across my chest and my stomach muscles and my shoulder muscles that I could barely breathe,” he continued. “It was the worst moment of my life.”

Pintauro’s husband Wil Tabares drove him to the hospital, where, Pintauro wrote, “after all kinds of tests, a CAT scan, an X-ray, and bloodwork, they discovered that I had an infection in my bloodstream due to a tear in my stomach lining – air and stomach acid, etc, were escaping into my abdomen.”

“It’s been the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt in my whole life,” he admitted. “So I had to have emergency surgery last night to repair the tear.”

He added, “The surgery went well, and now that it’s fixed, the pain is pretty much gone away, although I’m very sore. They just took the intubation tube out, but I have to leave another tube in my stomach for three days to keep removing the acids so as to not upset the stitches and repair they did. Which also means that I won’t be eating or drinking anything for the next three days. They always say this but it’s very true, if I had waited any longer, I could have died. My body was the one who told me something was absolutely wrong.”

After thanking his husband and the doctors and nurses at MemorialCare Miller Hospital, he encouraged fans, “So keep me in your prayers for the next few days that the repair sticks and that I can get out of here soon.”

Pintauro said that this marked his “first major surgery” and “first emergency surgery EVER,” though he noted that he “kept it together.”

“It was absolutely terrifying. If anybody might wanna send me flowers, I wouldn’t be opposed,” he quipped. “Lol just kidding.”

Fortunately, there was “one bright side” for Pintauro, which was that his arm is “not broken.”

Pintauro starred as Jonathan Bower in all eight seasons of Who’s The Boss alongside co-stars Tony Danza, Judith Light, Alyssa Milano, and Katherine Helmond. Per IMDb, he most recently starred in the 2022 Lifetime Christmas movie A Country Christmas Harmony.
