President Joe Biden is facing backlash after he recently made the surprising decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, who was convicted earlier this year of buying and possessing a gun as a drug user.
Jimmy Kimmel was quick to point out that the conservatives criticizing Biden opted “to let a 34-time convicted felon off the hook” by voting President-elect Trump back into office.
“The Biden presidency is at the ‘grandpa doesn’t give a damn what you think’ phase,” Kimmel joked during Monday’s (Dec. 2) Live broadcast.
“And, of course, right wing media is going nuts over this,” he added, before airing a super-cut of right wing media pundits calling President Biden a liar. “You almost think they got a tape of Biden calling Georgia asking for 11,000 votes.”
“They have to be kidding right? Everyone who voted to let a 34-time convicted felon off the hook is very mad about Joe Biden letting his son off the hook,” he pointed out.
Kimmel added that he doesn’t “necessarily disagree” with how they feel about Hunter being pardoned, but asked that critics “take a stroll through reality” and realize that Trump just appointed Charles Kushner, who he pardoned during his presidency, as the new U.S. ambassador to France.
“Not only did Trump pardon his son-in-law Jared’s dad who went to prison for hiring a hooker to frame his brother-in-law, [but] this weekend he named that same man U.S. ambassador to France,” Kimmel explained.
Per CNN, Trump’s new ambassador hired a sex worker to lure his brother-in-law, William Schulder, to have sex in a motel while he captured the encounter on a hidden camera. Kushner was sentenced to two years in prison.
Kimmel also had the perfect defense for why President Biden pardoned his son despite claiming for months that he would never do such a thing.
“Joe Biden did say he wasn’t going to pardon Hunter but, to be fair, there’s a very good chance he doesn’t remember saying that,” he said.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
