‘Crashing’
If you, like me, were struck by Jonathan Bailey‘s effortless charisma as the Winkie prince Fiyero in Wicked and have already seen his turn as the capital-R-rake Lord Anthony in Bridgerton (perhaps more than once), let me introduce you to one of Bailey’s earlier roles: the unhinged, incredibly charming Sam in Crashing. The six-episode series is a pre-Fleabag project from Phoebe Waller-Bridge that follows a group of six twenty-somethings who all serve as Property Guardians, living in a decommissioned hospital to keep the building safe in exchange for cheaper rent. Each of the show’s three main arcs is an unconventional rom-com; Bailey’s touches on grief, identity, and jealousy as sex-obsessed Sam grows closer to another one of the hospital’s residents, Fred. It’ll make you laugh, make you cringe, and make you deeply emotional — like all good rom-coms should. And the best part? It’s just six 24-minute episodes, so you’ll breeze through the entire series in a single afternoon.
