‘Alien: Romulus’
I will watch anything with Cailee Spaeny in it – especiallyif it’s a promising new Alien entry like Romulus. The new feature from Fede Álvarez follows a group of young space colonizers who board an abandoned ship in hopes of escaping the decrepit planet they’re trapped on as employees of Weyland-Yutani. Spaeny stars as Rain Carradine, an orphan whose only sibling is her droid brother Andy (David Jonsson). Despite her better judgement, she tags along with her ex-boyfriend’s friends to steal equipment from a nearby ship so they could travel to another galaxy. But the gang encounters a dangerous xenomorph that’s been trapped on the ship for 20 years since the events of the first Alien (1979) movie, leading to some gnarly violence and body horror. Spaeny and Jonsson breathe new life into the series during an era of franchise fatigue. While it is not as heady as Covenant, Spaeny proves she may just be able to fill Sigourney Weaver’s shoes as the new leading heroine.
